When Dental Emergencies Strike, Be Prepared

It’s important to make a plan of action before dental emergencies occur, so you don’t have to waste any time if something happens. For more serious situations such as jaw injuries, you most likely need to go to the emergency room before contacting a dentist. However, for less serious situations or general advice, you can contact San Angel Dental in Anaheim or Buena Park as a trusted source on dental hygiene.

Read on for information about the following situations:

  • Tongue, Lip, or Cheek Injuries
  • Jaw Injuries
  • Bleeding After a Baby Tooth Falls Out
  • Cold or Canker Sores

Tongue, Lip, or Cheek Injuries

In the case of tongue, lip, or cheek injuries, ice should be applied to any bruised areas. For bleeding, apply firm but gentle pressure with a sterile gauze or cloth. If the bleeding does not stop with pressure, or continues for more than 15 minutes, then go directly to the nearest emergency room.

Jaw Injuries

In the event of an injury to your jaw, go immediately to the nearest emergency room. After the condition is stabilized, contact a trusted local dentist such as San Angel Dental for any necessary treatments moving forward.

Bleeding After a Baby Tooth Falls Out

Fold a piece of sterile gauze and place it firmly over the bleeding area, and have your child bite down on the gauze for 15 minutes. If the bleeding continues for longer than 15 minutes, then please call our dental office for assistance.

Cold or Canker Sores

Over-the-counter medications (OTC) will usually provide temporary pain relief for cold sores. If your cold sores persist, then please call our office for additional advice and suggestions.
